The project began with the redesign and content revamp of one safety manual.
The work was so well-received, eight more teams requested my assistance for a combined total of twelve new documents created plus the development of the first-ever PSE Safety Dept.’s Editorial Style Guide.
The Gas team had not had an update to their typewritten field manual for over fifteen (15) years. I created a new design, format, style, and language for the manual. I interviewed subject matter experts in the field and even recommended laminating the document for weatherproofing.
After my success with the Gas manual, word got out in the company that there was a writer in the Safety department. Before my contract was up, I’d had requests to create eleven more manuals based off of old typewritten ones. In an unprecedented move, the Director of the department put an unlimited deadline date on my contract so that I could finish whatever work the team required.
I even asked for and received an increase in my hourly rate, and only after the second manual was completed.
